Plain-English financial education, built for military life.
Most people join up without a single lesson in personal finance — then handle a salary, lenders and big decisions from day one. The Absolute Academy exists to change that: real numbers, no jargon, and no selling. It’s how we live up to our Gold Armed Forces Covenant commitment — putting the financial wellbeing of serving people first.
Real numbers
Every example uses real military pay, real prices and real risks — nothing abstract, nothing generic.
No selling
It informs, it doesn’t push. Education first, with financial interests placed ahead of any commercial aim.
Where they are
Delivered in training establishments, on garrison, and on-demand through the app — to fit service life.
One programme, three stages of a career.
Army Foundation College, Harrogate
Where the Academy began — age-appropriate foundations for the youngest recruits.
Phase 1 & 2 training
The full literacy programme and on-camp briefs as recruits earn and train.
Stage 5
The Life Events programme
On-demand support for the real moments, right across a serving career.
Where it all began
The Academy was developed over six months at the Army Foundation College, Harrogate — home to the Army’s youngest recruits. It’s where we learned what financial education for the military community really needs to be, and the programme grew from there.
Understanding your pay. Your first payslip explained — including what a tax code is and how to check yours is right.
Where to go for help. The welfare and support routes available, so nobody faces a money worry alone.
The real risks — and how cover works. The genuine risks of training and service, and how Kit and Personal Accident insurance protect against them.
Starting to save. An honest look at ISAs and saving — including clear warnings about the risks of stocks, shares and crypto.
Free cover during training, no strings. Recruits are given free Kit and Personal Accident cover while they train. We take no bank details, and we tell them before the free cover ends — there’s never pressure to buy, and a dedicated adviser is on site to answer questions.
Through initial & trade training
As recruits move through Phase 1 (initial) and Phase 2 (trade) training, the full Academy travels with them — self-paced modules in the app, backed by in-person briefs delivered into the cohort by their Absolute Military adviser.
The 10-module programme — self-paced, plain English, finishing with a Certificate of Financial Literacy they can record on their service record.
On-camp briefs delivered into the cohort, with a QR code to register free and unlock the app.
Free Kit & Personal Accident cover through initial training — no bank details taken, and a heads-up before it ends.
A free adviser for one-to-ones — on camp, by phone or online — with no obligation and no fees.
For the whole serving career
Financial life doesn’t stop after training. The Life Events programme is an on-demand library for the whole serving community — there the moment something changes, from a first home to the hardest days.
The Annual Financial Health Check — 20 questions across six areas that score your money green/amber/red and point you to what’s worth a look.
15 life-event modules — first home, a new baby, deployment, promotion, posted overseas, thinking about leaving — each with real tools, not just reading.
The harder moments, handled with care — financial difficulty, a relationship ending, injury, bereavement — written to support, stated as confidential, never judgemental.
An adviser on hand whenever someone wants to talk it through.
Financial education that grows with the career.
However far along they are, there’s something in the Academy for every member of the military community — and a real person to talk to whenever they need one.
