The features that matter when you serve
Most travel policies are written for civilian holidaymakers and start and end in the UK. Service life doesn’t always work that way — you may be taking leave directly from an overseas posting, or have a trip pulled at short notice for operational reasons. This policy is built for those realities.
Designed around the forces
- Leisure trips covered from HM base to HM base — not just from the UK
- Cancellation cover if authorised leave is cancelled or you’re called up for operational reasons
- Cover for official military business, including training and temporary duty (TDY)
- Family and single-parent-family cover options available
- £40 excess — below the market norm
Included as standard
- Enhanced independent traveller cover built in
- Up to £5m emergency medical & repatriation, 24/7 assistance
- Simple medical warranty — no long health questionnaire
- Any number of trips up to 45 days each
- Personal liability up to £2m and legal expenses up to £25,000
Cover if your leave is cancelled
Up to £5,000cancellation & curtailment for operational reasons
If you are a member of HM Forces and your authorised leave is cancelled, or you are called up for operational reasons, you can claim for irrecoverable, unused travel and accommodation costs — provided the cancellation could not reasonably have been expected when you bought the policy or booked the trip. This is one of the most valuable differences between a military-specific policy and a standard high-street one.
Extend your cover for the activities you do
Two optional extensions can be added for an additional premium when you take out or amend your policy. A wide range of everyday activities — including hiking, cycling, snorkelling, surfing and golf — is already covered as standard.
ADD-ON
Winter sports — up to 17 days per rolling 12 months (ski equipment, hire, ski pack, piste & avalanche closure)
ADD-ON
Hazardous Activity Level 1 — e.g. abseiling, martial arts, white water rafting, rugby, polo
ADD-ON
Hazardous Activity Level 2 — e.g. bungee jumping, rock climbing, mountaineering up to 4,500m, scuba to 60m
ON REQUEST
High-risk or conflict-zone travel — available on request, contact us directly
Standard winter sports activities are only covered if winter sports cover is selected. Some activities carry no personal liability cover. See the Hazardous Activities section of the policy wording for the full lists.

Emergency line: +44 (0)20 8763 3489 · internationalhealthcare@healix.com. For non-emergency travel claims, contact the administrator Sentry Solutions (scheme ref A28984) at claim@sentrysolutions.co.uk or +44 (0)20 8667 2467.
Key things the policy does not cover
Every travel policy has limits and exclusions. The most important ones are summarised below — this is not a complete list, so please read the general exclusions and the conditions relating to health in the policy wording before you travel.
Pre-existing medical conditions outside the health conditions of the policy
Travelling against medical advice or against FCDO / WHO advice
Operational duties of a member of the Armed Forces
Professional sports or entertaining; base jumping, sky diving
Claims while under the influence of alcohol or non-prescribed drugs
Coronavirus, except under Section F and certain Section A events
Single trips longer than the 45-day maximum duration
Costs you can recover from elsewhere; the policy excess
Terms, conditions and exclusions apply. For full limitations see the policy wording. Travelling to a high-risk or conflict zone may be covered but must be requested from us in advance.

Frequently Asked Questions
What makes this different from a standard travel policy?
It’s built around service life. Leisure trips are covered from HM base to HM base, not just from the UK, so you’re protected travelling directly from an overseas posting. Cover is available if your authorised leave is cancelled or you’re called up for operational reasons. There’s a simple medical warranty rather than a long questionnaire, the £40 excess is below the market norm, and enhanced independent traveller cover is included as standard.
Does it cover deployments and official military business?
The policy covers official military business, including training and temporary duty (TDY). However, claims arising from the operational duties of a member of the Armed Forces are excluded, as are injuries sustained in active combat or military operations. Travel to a high-risk or conflict zone may be covered but must be requested from us directly in advance.
Am I covered if my leave is cancelled or I'm called up?
Yes. Under the cancellation and curtailment section, if your authorised leave is cancelled or you’re called up for operational reasons, you can claim for irrecoverable, unused travel and accommodation costs up to £5,000 — provided the cancellation could not reasonably have been expected when you bought the policy or booked the trip.
How long can my trips be and who is eligible?
The policy covers any number of trips during the period of insurance, each up to 45 days in duration. Adults aged up to 65 at inception are eligible. There’s no cover for any single trip lasting longer than 45 days. Family and single-parent-family cover options are available for dependants.
Do I have to declare my medical conditions?
You don’t complete a detailed medical questionnaire, but important conditions relating to health apply. For example, recent inpatient treatment, conditions where you’re on a waiting list, awaiting diagnosis or results, or where a doctor has advised you not to travel may not be covered. Read the ‘Important conditions relating to health’ section of the policy wording before you travel.
Is winter sports cover included?
Winter sports is an optional add-on for an additional premium. When selected it gives up to 17 days’ cover in a rolling 12-month period, including equipment up to £1,500, equipment hire, ski pack, piste closure and avalanche closure benefits.
How do I make a claim?
For a medical emergency abroad, contact Healix International on +44 (0)20 8763 3489. For all other (non-emergency) travel claims, contact the administrator Sentry Solutions at claim@sentrysolutions.co.uk or +44 (0)20 8667 2467, quoting Absolute Military Travel (scheme ref A28984). Claims should be notified within 31 days, or as soon as possible afterwards.
Who underwrites the policy and is my claim protected?
The policy is arranged by Absolute Military and underwritten by Healix Insurance Services Limited on behalf of Hamilton Insurance DAC, rated A (Excellent) by AM Best and regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland. Both are covered by the FSCS, which provides 90% of a valid claim with no upper limit if either cannot meet its obligations.
